5 Personal Milestones Rohit Sharma Might Target Before Retirement

Rohit Sharma is one of the most talented batsmen in the game. He took time to get going but after he got into the groove, there was no looking back. In this article, we take a look at five personal milestones Rohit Sharma might target before retirement from international cricket.

The Mumbai cricketer is 34-years-old and is currently in peak form. Hence, it can be assumed that for at least three more years, Rohit would be in Team India. Of course, this could change, but Rohit is a class cricketer and playing until the age of 37 or even 38 is a realistic possibility. Hence, he might look to target a few personal milestones before then.

1) 20000 International runs – One of the milestones Rohit Sharma might target before retirement

Rohit Sharma recently breached the 15000-run mark in International cricket. Till a few years ago, Rohit was active mainly in ODI and T20I cricket, and hence, he was not able to add many runs in this aspect. However, he is currently part of the Test team, too, and hence, scoring 5000 runs in the remaining years of his career should be a possibility.

2) 5000 runs in Test cricket

Rohit Sharma actually had a slow start to his Test career. Initially, he did not get opportunities in the white jersey and later, he was dropped due to bad form. However, in 2019, he returned to the fold in the opening position. Since then, he has been in top form and has been the best Indian Test batsman in recent months. He has 3000+ runs in Test cricket right now and if he has three to four more years of productive time in the red-ball format, he will go well past 5000 runs in Tests.

3) 350 Sixes in ODI cricket

While Shahid Afridi and Chris Gayle hold the record for most sixes in ODI cricket with 351 hits each, Rohit Sharma stands at No.4 with 244 sixes. Another 100+ sixes in the format could actually be a gettable milestone by Rohit Sharma. Especially since he scores them in series after he finds his groove, 350 sixes in ODI cricket should be achievable.

4) 200 Sixes in T20I cricket – One of the challenging milestones Rohit Sharma might target before retirement

Rohit Sharma has 133 sixes in T20I cricket at the moment. He is below Martin Guptill on this list, who has scored 147 sixes. Rohit can try to get to the 200 mark since India will be playing a lot of T20I cricket in the coming years. This way, Rohit can set a legacy in this format.

4) A triple-century in Test cricket

Rohit Sharma holds the record for the highest individual score in ODI cricket. He has also scored multiple double centuries in the 50-over format. The kind of batsman that he is, Rohit would surely want to score a triple hundred in his Test career. Since he opens the batting and is undroppable right now, he certainly would have plenty of opportunities to hit a triple century in his career.
